Availability of tickets
BTO staff and their families are excluded from playing the Raffle. Sterling Ltd employees are excluded from playing the Raffle.
Promotion of the raffle will be to BTO supporters but is available for anyone to play online at https://bto.thecharityraffle.co.uk/play, hosted by Sterling Ltd.Physical ticket stubs must be mailed to British Trust for Ornithology Raffle, Furness Gate, Furness Business Park, Peter Green Way, Barrow-in-Furness, LA14 2PE.The Raffle is open to residents of mainland Great Britain (this excludes Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and Channel Islands)
Entries into the raffle are limited to persons aged 16 years old or over. No person under this age is allowed by law to enter the BTO Raffle. Online players must confirm that they are aged 16 or over.You may not buy or claim to buy Raffle Tickets on behalf of any other person.
Any person who has entered BTO Raffle who is under 16 years old will automatically forfeit any prize and will be excluded from future entries. If a person under 16 years old is found to have participated in a lottery after the lottery draw has taken place, then any prizes that might otherwise have been due to them will not be paid out. If prizes have already been paid out, all reasonable attempts will be made to recover them.By entering into the Raffle you agree to be bound by the Rules, and applicable provisions of the Gambling Act 2005 and any relevant regulations made there under from time to time. British Trust for Ornithology shall not be liable for any loss or damage (including loss of the opportunity to enter the Raffle and / or the right to receive a prize) suffered by you if you have not complied with the Rules. The Rules may be amended by BTO from time to time.The maximum number of Raffle Tickets an individual will be permitted to purchase in any one Draw is 50.
Payment
Tickets are priced at £1 each. This is stated on tickets and on the website. They may not be sold for any more or less than the stated price.Your ticket numbers will be displayed on your tickets, or if entering online, the screen and emailed to you.
Entry with a valid payment is by 11.59pm on 21 March 2022. Late entries will be treated as a donation.
Payment is to be made online by debit card or via cheque delivered to British Trust for Ornithology Raffle, Furness Gate, Furness Business Park, Peter Green Way, Barrow-in-Furness, LA14 2PE.
Proceeds will be paid by Sterling Ltd into the BTO bank account.
In order to comply with the Act, Raffle Tickets that have been purchased and entered into the draw for which they were intended are prohibited from being subsequently refunded.
Draw
The draw will take place on 28 March 2022 at Sterling’s offices.
If the draw date is changed then all reasonable steps will be taken to ensure that participants are made aware.
The winning numbers will be selected at random from the combined entry stubs and online entries using a Gambling Commission approved Random Number Generator so that no unfair advantage can be gained.
The seven winners will be notified by email, telephone or letter within 10 working days and a list of winning numbers provided on our website at www.bto.org/raffle. BTO reserves the right to publish the names of winners. Prizes will be sent to winners by post.
The First prize of a birdwatching break for two with Birding in Portugal is valid until 30 November 2022. In the event of either the UK or Portuguese governments initiating a travel ban that prevents the winner redeeming their prize, the validity will be extended to reflect this. There are no cash alternatives to the non-cash prizes.
Based upon our projections the chance of winning a prize for a single ticket is approximately 1 in 7,143.
All profits from the Spring Raffle go to British Trust for Ornithology. Details of the work of BTO can be found on the charity’s website www.bto.org. We expect that from the proceeds of all ticket sales of the Spring Raffle, 50% will be spent on expenses (including prizes) and a fantastic 50% will be available to fund our important work.
Liability
British Trust for Ornithology shall not be liable to you for any loss or damage suffered by you arising from:
- Any delays or failures in the postal service or other delivery methods used by the BTO or you from time to time.
- Any delays or failures in any systems used by the BTO or you to transmit e-mails.
- Any failure in any software or other systems used by BTO for the administration of the Raffle.
- Any delays of failures in the banking system used by BTO or you.
- Any refusal by BTO to accept entry of an individual as an entrant or the cancellation of an entrant by BTO.
- Any failure to enter your Ticket into the Draw.
- Any event beyond the reasonable control of BTO.
BTO shall not be liable to you in contract, tort, negligence or otherwise for any indirect or consequential loss suffered by you in relation to your participation in the Raffle (including loss of the opportunity to enter the Raffle and / or the Ticket of winning a prize).
Self-Exclusion
Players, including online players, may at any time request by phone, post or email to be excluded from receiving further raffle ticket mailings or may unsubscribe from e-newsletters promoting the raffle. A self-exclusion form can be provided if necessary.
This information will be added to our database so that they do not receive tickets or specific marketing material. This will be for a period of at least 6 months, but a longer time period may be specified. After this time the individual must contact us and ask that we resume sending tickets to them.
Complaints
Complaints about the raffle should be addressed to the Promoter, Ieuan Evans, at BTO, The Nunnery, Thetford, Norfolk IP24 2PU, telephone 01842 750050, email ieuan.evans@bto.org. If the complaint remains unresolved it will be referred to the Director of the BTO. If you are not satisfied with the outcome of your complaint, you may refer it to our nominated ADR; the Independent Betting Adjudication Service (IBAS) for independent resolution.
A log will be kept of all complaints received and the actions taken. A copy of the decision or a note of the outcome of each dispute referred to IBAS will be provided to the Gambling Commission quarterly.
Proper Law and Jurisdiction
The Laws of England and Wales shall govern the interpretation and/or enforcement of these Rules and the Society and all entrants hereby submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts.

Data that we collect from you is used lawfully in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and is used solely for the purpose of processing your purchase of Raffle Tickets, subsequent entry into the Raffle, and informing you if you have won a prize.
You have the right to access the information we hold about you. To obtain this information, please contact British Trust for Ornithology in writing. You may be asked to provide proof of your identity prior to personal information being disclosed to you.
British Trust for Ornithology will not sell, rent or grant access to any of the personal data we collect about you to any third parties without your express prior permission.We may share aggregated information to third parties. This will not contain personal information that can identify any individual person.
We may be obliged to disclose your personal information if required to do so by law, for example to statutory bodies such as the Gambling Commission or other government bodies.
